Apcupsd is an application that runs on Linux, UNIX and some Windows machines (using Cygwin). It allows the computer to interact with (almost all recent) APC Uninterupptible Power Supplies. Apcupsd also works with some of the APC OEM models (e.g. Hewlett-Packard's).
Apcupsd stands for APC UPS Daemon. Apcupsd must run in daemon mode to keep a live connection with the UPS. This is needed to monitor the UPS via USB or RS232.
Apcupsd is the Free Software equivalent of the APC's proprietary software called Powerchute. Apcupsd is not compatible with Powerchute but contains much of its features.
